Rise and Shine : Songs

How it Works

The concept is simple – write a song each day about a story from the daily news, incorporating a live audience’s contributions. That means YOU.

To write and perform a song live is a challenge, it’s fun. Our writers have final say, but you’re welcome to suggest stories, lyrics, styles or statements, or even better, send us your performances to include. Give it your best, and we’ll do the same.

The show is entertaining. Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes not. The songs are unpredictable in style and genre, because we never know what song we’re going to write before we start the show. We always finish on time.

At the end of each show, once we’ve had time to mix the song, you can download a podcast.

We also make songs available as very good quality downloads for purchase.

Good Causes

We donate a minimum 20% to charity. The actual amount depends on how much we get from our audience. The more we get, the more we give.

In pilot shows, revenue deriving from songs written during the period was donated to South African musical charity BuskAid. Please visit them to see what they do.

Contributions: The Rules

To join in, you have to play by these three simple rules – your use of this website signifies your acceptance of them:

1. Any contributions you make to the show – which can be audio or video recordings, images or text – you are giving to us* to do exactly what we like with in any form whatsoever for as long as we like anywhere;

2. You guarantee us that what you give us is your original material, i.e. that you are not taking anyone else’s material and pretending it’s yours;

3. You are giving us the rights to any revenue or financial benefit that may derive from your contribution.

We try to credit everyone who contributes, and we can also link to your website – so if you have one, tell us.

Sponsorship

You can sponsor the show. Sponsors get mentioned as often as we remember in the live show, their name appears in glowing colour on the website, and we proudly declare the podcast to be “brought to you by our sponsors [name]“.
